What is all of this Training about?  What do you actually go over and learn about?
This is Scouting
An introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding and methods of Scouting.  It addresses how these aims and methods are reached in age-appropriate style within Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing.  Videos, discussions, and hands-on reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute training session.  Ideally, all unit-based volunteers take this session at the same time, so they understand that they are all striving for the same results with the youth they serve.  Each Leader completes NLE training only once, but can always come back and attend again.
Fast Start Training
Fast Start training (for any level) is the first step for a new volunteer and should be taken soon after a new leader registers to support the youth in our various Scouting programs.  It is not the same for all programs, it is different based on the needs and goals of each program.
Youth Protection Training
For ALL new and current volunteers, leaders and parents.  This training is an important component of the Boy Scouts of America’s strategy to protect its members from child abuse.  This training is not required, but it is very heavily encouraged for all registered members and the certification should be updated every two years.  Can be taken ON LINE through the link above.
Cub Scout Leader Fast Start Training
This course introduces the aims and purposes of the Boy Scouts of America's foundational program, then zeroes in on the job.  Subsections of the course will brief anyone new to the job of Tiger Cub Den Leader, Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, or Cubmaster.  We also cover the standard pars of the meeting and tell where additional resources can be found.
Cub Scout Leader Specific Training
Tiger Cub Den Leaders, Cub Scout Den Leaders, Webelos Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Pack Committee Members and Pack Trainers can complete this training in about 3 hours.  The LEADER is considered trained upon completion of "THIS IS SCOUTING" and the Leader Specific Training for their position.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor OrientationTraining - BALOO
This training is designed to give Cub Scout Leaders the tools to successfully lead pack campouts.  During this one day session you learn planning techniques, fun and creative outdoor activities, equipment selection, quick and easy cooking, nature fun, safety procedures, BSA policies regarding pack camping, and much more.  It will especially help the new Cub Scout leader understand the basics of the BSA camping program so they can enjoy the outdoors too.
BALOO Information includes Preparation for camping with Cub Scouts, Site Selection, Parent Involvement, Health & Safety, Equipment, Feeding, Introduction to Outdoor Skills.  This Training is required for any adult who is charge of planning a Pack campout, and it is recommended that one adult leader, per Pack, complete this training.  Of course, it is encouraged that all leader attend and drag a few of Boy Scout leaders with you so you can them learn new things and be surprised too !
Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills Training
Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program and Introduction to Outdoor Webelos Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right.  It is held in conjunction with Boy Scout Outdoor Leader Skills Training because the skills are very similar and you're getting ready to transition these young men to Boy Scouts.  The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout Handbook for new Scouts in the T-2-1 Program.  The course is also ideal for Venturing leaders because it focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.  The course is 2 days long (one full weekend).  The emphasis is on the giving leaders an awareness of the skills, rather than on attending the course.
Boy Scout Leader Fast Start Training
This course introduces the aims and purposes of the Boy Scouts of America's core program, then zeroes in on the job.  You'll cover the seven parts of the troop meeting, the troop committee, outdoor program, and other basic concepts of Scouting, all in one short online experience.  It's the best way for someone new to the program to quickly grasp how troop Scouting works and were additional reserouces can be found.
Boy Scout Leader Specific Training Part 1 of 2
For Scoutmasters & Assistant Scoutmasters, this training is divided into 2 parts.  The first part concentrate on troop operations and can be completed in 1 full day (it includes you taking the online "This is Scouting").  The 2nd part, which focuses on T-2-1 basic requirements and outdoor skills, lasts approximately 2 days (one weekend) and is an introductory program.  It is not intended to provide indepth training, but to give the leader an idea of what a new Scout will encounter in their first year of Scouting.
The LEADER is considered trained upon completion of (the online) "THIS IS SCOUTING", Scoutmaster (& Assistant Scoutmaster) Leader Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
Boy Scout Outdoor Leader Skills Training Part 2 of 2
Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right.  It is the required outdoor training for all Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters and Varsity Scout coaches.
Troop Committee Leader Training
Troop committee members are considered trained when they have completed "This is Scouting", Fast Start, Youth Protection Training and Troop Committee Challenge.
Chartered Organization Representative Training
(COR Training):  Understand the important role you play in the organization of Boy Scouts of America as a representative of the chartered organization to the district committee and the local council.
Troop Leader Training (yes - our Youth too) - TLT
This program introduces your Troop’s new junior leaders to leadership skills.  It generally follows the outline of the Scoutmaster’s Troop Leader Training Kit.  The Workshop covers Troop and Patrol Organization, Leadership Styles and Principles, Cooperation, Building Spirit, Problem Solving, and Introduction to Leadership Positions, and is taught through the use of games and skits.  YOU (the Troop) can do this yourself and do not need to wait for the District (any District) or Council to sponsor a training weekend or week.  Specifically it is covered in the following (yes, this has been challenged in the past):
Various Programs are available to train the youth leaders of a Boy Scout troop. These are outlined in chapter 7 of the Scoutmaster Handbook,Training Junior Leaders"; and in the Scoutmaster's Junior Leader Training Kit, No. 34306.
1. Introduction to Leadership. This personal coaching session is conducted by the Scoutmaster with newly selected troop junior leaders. It is outlined in the Scoutmasters Handbook and in the Scoutmaster's Junior Leader Training Kit.
2. Troop Junior Leader Training. This one-day workshop is conducted by the Scoutmaster for his junior leaders. It also uses the Scoutmaster's Junior Leader Training Kit, No. 34306.
Upon completing this training, the Trained Leader emblem may be worn below the junior leader's badge of office.
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
This purpose of this program is to train our young leaders to become effective and reliable "Leaders."  The Council-wide NYLT is designed to compliment the TLT you do within your Troop.  During this week long course the Scouts who attend will learn more about themselves, make new friends, have fun, learn about goal setting, play games, campout, put together pioneering progjects, have a movie night, learn to solve problems, learn to resolve conflicts, use a GPS unit, cook out and much more!
WOOD BADGE for the 21st Century
Wood Badge is the core leadership skills training course for the Boy Scouts.  It focuses on strengthening every volunteer's ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults.  It is available to all Scout leaders and has been developed for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, Venturing and District Leaders.  Its focus is on leadership, not outdoor skills.
This is not all of the training available to you, this is a short list with brief descriptions of what is available to you locally.  There are many more programs on line (with new programs being added by National frequently) and even more available through Philmont Training Center too.
